Buying
15 answers · Questions about buying and orders.
How do I buy?
Pick a listing and tap “Buy”.
You then land on the transaction page and pay through dropo.
With a fixed price this immediately becomes an order.
With a drop, “Buy” is not a classic instant purchase.
Your current price becomes the first bid and the 10-minute bidding phase starts.
Other interested people can bid higher during that time.
Is my money safe?
For purchases through dropo — that is, drop and fixed price — your money is held in escrow during the transaction, until you confirm receipt or the case is closed.
Only after that does the money go to the seller.
If a problem is reported and the case is escalated, the money stays held during the review.
For direct sales this does not apply.
There, dropo does not handle the payment and takes no responsibility for payment or handover.
Buyer and seller settle everything directly between themselves.
How does a purchase work?
1. You buy or win the item. 2. You pay and dropo confirms the incoming payment. 3. Buyer and seller arrange handover or shipping via the transaction page. 4. The seller ships or hands over the item. 5. The buyer accepts the item or confirms receipt — or reports a problem. 6. After a successful close, the payout is triggered.
Only with a successful close does the money move on.
I won a bidding phase — what now?
You have 24 hours from the end of the bidding phase to pay.
Reminders arrive 12 hours and 4 hours before the deadline.
If you do not pay in time:
- the order is cancelled,
- the listing goes back on sale,
- your account gets a strike.
If you have already received ratings as a seller, your reliability drops as well.
Repeatedly failing to pay can have further consequences for your account.
Goods did not arrive, or are not as described?
First contact the seller through the chat on the transaction page.
If that gets you nowhere, report a problem through the transaction.
The money stays held during the review.
Every escalated case is examined by us by hand.
We get back to you as soon as possible and, where needed, contact both sides.
How does a dispute work?
If you report a problem via the transaction page, the order becomes a dispute.
The money stays held during that time.
dropo support examines the facts and can contact buyer and seller to clarify the situation.
In the first version of dropo, such cases are deliberately judged individually.
Support tries to mediate and to work out which solution is possible in the specific case.
In the end the payment can, for example, be released to the seller, refunded in full to the buyer or, if both sides agree, refunded in part.
Detailed buyer-protection rules and additional case categories are being developed separately.
What can I pay with?
dropo currently supports:
- card,
- TWINT, for amounts up to CHF 5,000,
- Apple Pay,
- Google Pay,
- Link,
- Klarna, for amounts from CHF 1 to CHF 1,585.
My payment failed, or I suspect a double charge. What should I do?
If a payment failed, you can start the payment process again via “Pay now”.
Technically, dropo checks before payment and during processing whether an order has already been paid, in order to prevent double payments as far as possible.
If you still see an unusual or double charge on your payment method, contact dropo support at billing@dropo.ch.
We will look into the order and payment concerned.
Can I return something?
dropo does not offer a general right of return.
For private purchases there is also no general statutory right of return in Switzerland simply because someone has changed their mind.
A commercial seller can additionally offer their own return or goodwill terms.
But if the goods do not match the listing, or there is another problem with the order, that is not a normal return — it is a possible dispute.
See the questions on problems and disputes for that.
How do I find something specific?
Through the search bar, with filters by category, properties and radius.
There is also AI search, which understands whole sentences, and search via the map.
Saved searches notify you automatically as soon as something matching is newly posted.
How do I save something for later?
Through the heart on the listing.
Under “Saved” you will find three areas:
- saved searches,
- saved posts,
- favourite listings.
How do I write to a seller?
Through the chat icon on the listing image, or later straight from the transaction.
It is the same chat.
This works for every type of sale, including while a drop is running.
For sales through dropo we check chat messages and images for contact details: phone numbers, email addresses, messenger names and requests to complete the deal outside dropo.
Such messages are not delivered, because the sale is meant to run through the platform.
This applies to the whole conversation, including after the purchase.
After a purchase, buyer and seller can exchange the details needed for shipping or handover via the transaction page.
For direct sales these restrictions do not apply.
There, exchanging contact details directly is expressly part of the model.
What do the coloured markers on a listing mean?
| NEU | freshly posted |
| DROP | the price is falling right now |
| FIX | fixed price, buy immediately |
| BID | bidding phase — running or about to start |
| MAX | can fall all the way to CHF 1 |
| TOP (red) | already heavily reduced |
| PREMIUM (gold) | paid reach |
Orange is the normal case.
If several markers apply at once, the internal priority decides.
Premium beats everything, Max ranks above Top.
What does “5 of 8 left” mean?
The listing has several identical units, and this many are still available.
In a drop you buy exactly one unit at the current price. A 10-minute bidding phase starts for that unit: others can bid, and the remaining units keep falling. If you want several, buy or bid for each one separately. At the end, all remaining units go into the bidding phase together; each bid counts for one unit.
At a fixed price you choose the quantity and pay for all units together.
If the listing has sizes, you choose the size first; sold-out sizes are struck through. One price applies to all sizes.
If the seller receives offers, you can also send an offer — it is for one unit of the chosen size. If the seller accepts it, that unit is bought and goes to payment without a bidding phase (24 hours).
What are partner offers?
Businesses offer a product in several units — as a drop or at a fixed price with a sale.
In a drop, the price falls as usual. When you buy a unit, a 10-minute bidding phase starts for it: others can bid, and the remaining units keep falling.
At the end of the run, all remaining units go into the bidding phase together. Each bid counts for one unit. Whoever wins a unit has 24 hours to pay.
With a sale, you buy straight away at the sale price while it runs. When it ends, the offer ends too.
